Bob,
Anybody who attended last night’s BOE meeting would be hard pressed to give an example of any substantive answers to questions that were asked. This was in spite of the eloquence and passion which was displayed by many citizens, who conveyed their frustration with the lack of decision making on the part of elected officials.
“The board did not make any decisions Thursday about possible savings. The board formed a committee that will speak to the three school unions about possible cost-saving concessions. “
(Waterbury Rep-Am 12/11)
This is a farce. There are already concessions that have been offered … and ignored! The NTL has continued to act in good faith, to try and resolve the shortfall, and we have been rewarded with game-playing and verbal semantics.
Of note: Last night’s agenda item #8 , Superintendent’s Report – under Budget Related Issues – “Discussion of Detailed Plan to close 09-10 Budget Deficit” .
Does anybody remember this occurring???
The Budget problem has been all over the local and state news for at least 3 months, there have been repeated meetings between innumerable town boards trying to resolve the issue, there have been petitions signed and presented, protests held at Tuttle, …
But NOW we learn the Superintendent will be able to answer any budget related questions …
Next Tuesday …between 7:00-8:00PM … only if he has the questions ahead of time …in writing.
I’m sure THAT will be able to cover everything we need to know
It is an embarrassment to Naugatuck that this has been allowed to drag on the way it has.
