The following is an update at each school as of 9:00 AM this morning (2/6/2011).  Fortunately this update includes Maple Hills (sorry fellow parents).

Central Avenue Elementary School – approximately one half (1/2) complete.   Work continues.  Adjacent Naugatuck Day Care is done.

    Mr. Mayor,

Thank you so much for keeping us up-to-date with the progress of snow removal. We fellow parents/teachers at Maple Hill certainly understand that you are way beyond overworked and tired, and really appreciate your taking the time to include the “school on the hill” in your report today. I went there yesterday to try to photograph the work for our web site, but found it impossible to get a good picture. However, they were definitely working at the momentous task of clearing the huge roof. Thank you for keeping us informed and for all your hard work in getting this done.

will naugatuck high have school tomorrow?

  • John said,

What budget is being used to pay for all this? I know it has to be done but, still is this coming out of the schools, or town? If it is coming out of the town, what will be affected?

  • Bob said,

    Hi John:

You ask a very important question. We will have discussions with our Finance Board on Tuesday (2/6/2011) night. The Comptroller has been involved all weekend. We are in agreement that this should be managed as a Borough (municipal) expense. School buildings are owned by the Borough, and we do not want to impact education. It will not be easy, but we will manage. More information on that will follow once the same is available.

Is the National Guard volunteering their time, or is the town paying them?

  • Bob said,

Hi Sav B: Municipalities must reimburse the State of Connecticut for National Guard assistance.

  • Sav B said,

Oh, alright, thank you. Are the schools set to open tomorrow then?

  • Bob said,

They should be Sav B. Any delays at this point should be ice related; not due to the roofs. We could use a full week of school.

  • Fran Serratore said,

    Bob,

Thanks again for all you have done to coordinated this massive snow removal. Thanks to all the workers who put in countless hours to remove snow from all the schools in town.

  • Bob said,

Mr. Serratore: Thank you for all your hospitality throughout the weekend. We sincerely appreciate it.

  • Sav B said,

We sure could! Thanks for doing your best, you really did a thorough job making sure the children will be safe :)
