Candidate Profile
Bob Mezzo for Board of Education

Biography and Committees
My name is Bob Mezzo and I am a lifelong Naugatuck resident who served three terms as mayor from 2009 through 2015. I am married to my best friend, Eileen (Sorcinelli) Mezzo, who has been a Naugatuck educator for 35 years, the last 20 in administration. We are blessed with three children: Ally (NHS Class of 2016), Jay (NHS Class of 2020) and Jack (current freshman at NHS). I am a parishioner at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, which is Eileen’s church since childhood. I received my bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from UConn, and law degree from UConn Law School. I am currently a commercial real estate lender for Ion Bank.
On what committees do you currently serve?
I rejoined the Board of Education in 2023, and currently serve on the Facilities and Policy Subcommittees. In addition, I am a board member of Naugatuck Ambulance, Inc. and the current secretary of the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation. One of the greatest joys of my life is the relationships I have developed with student-athletes and their families in over 31 years of coaching youth and scholastic sports in Naugatuck. This includes associations with Naugatuck Pop Warner, Union City Little League, YMCA Little Pal Basketball, Naugatuck Basketball Association, Naugatuck Youth Soccer, NHS Tennis and City Hill Baseball. On Friday nights in the fall you can find me in the press box at Veterans Field doing public address for Greyhound Football. Most importantly, I serve as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Rosary.
What have you accomplished in the past two years?
The past two years have challenged our school community as limited resources resulted in many difficult decisions during the annual budget process. When forced to make less than ideal cuts to our district, I have prioritized the areas which will have the greatest impact on learning and reflect the greatest needs of our district. Those include math and literacy instruction, a safe and orderly school climate, behavioral and emotional health, and core subject matter.
During my first year back on the board, I led the effort to remove student cell phones from our buildings during the school day. This has resulted in a better learning environment and less distraction for both students and educators.
One of the most important jobs of local government is to listen. While I bring a unique skill set to our board of education, I have made myself available to hear the many wonderful voices that comprise our educational community. Communication, transparency and always showing-up are the core requirements of involvement in local government, and I continue to be available to all I serve.
I am always pleased to discuss my goals for the next term on the board if I am fortunate enough to be re-elected. I encourage anyone to call/text me at 203-217-0876, email me at bob@bobmezzo.com or visit my website www.bobmezzo.com .
I approve all content and any funds expended on my campaign are paid personally.
